Can ChatGPT run my Facebook ads?

In part, yes. Since 29 April 2026 Meta has offered official AI connectors, in open beta, that let an assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude read your results and create and edit campaigns in your Meta ad account. The assistant does what you ask it to; the plan, the limits and the judgment about what to ask remain yours.

Updated 5 Oct 2026

Yes, partly, and through an official route. On 29 April 2026 Meta announced Meta Ads AI Connectors, in open beta, which give an AI assistant a Meta-authenticated connection to your ad account. ChatGPT or Claude can then report on your campaigns and create and edit ads when you ask in plain language. They still need someone who knows what to ask for.

What do Meta's AI connectors do?#

Meta's announcement lists four things:

  • Reporting. Ask how campaigns performed and get an answer from your real account data.
  • Campaign management. Create and edit campaigns, ad sets and ads by describing what you want.
  • Catalogue management. Create a product catalogue and add product data.
  • Signal diagnostics. Check the health and quality of the signals your account receives.

Underneath are two pieces: a server that Meta hosts for AI assistants (Meta calls it the ads MCP server) and a command-line tool for developers. Meta says the server route needs no developer credentials and no coding.

Meta's developer documentation lists the tools: create a campaign, an ad set and an ad, update any of them, switch a paused one to active, create a single-image ad with a link, turn an Instagram post into an ad, and manage custom audiences.

Two safety details are stated by Meta itself:

  • The documentation for the ad creation tools says that write tools create things in a paused state and that your AI assistant asks for confirmation before activation.
  • Meta's post on the command-line tool, dated 29 April 2026, says resources are created paused by default so nothing goes live until you are ready.

On 16 July 2026 Meta added two things: a way for developers to connect any AI application through their own developer app, and rules that an admin with full control of a business portfolio can set to govern what AI agents may do, covering actions from budget changes to catalogue updates.

What do you need to use them?#

  • Access to your Meta ad account. You sign in through Meta; the connection uses your own access.
  • An AI assistant that can add a connector.
  • For Claude: Meta's setup guide gives the steps for Claude Code. Anthropic's help centre says custom connectors in the Claude app are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, with Free limited to one; we have not found a Meta page confirming that route.
  • For ChatGPT: OpenAI's documentation says developer mode, which is where you add a connector like this one, is available to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web. It also says write actions require confirmation by default.
  • Knowing what to ask. The assistant builds what you describe, whether or not it was the right thing to ask for.

Meta's announcement names no fee for the connectors. Your ad spend, and your assistant's plan if it is a paid one, are separate.

What is missing for a small-business owner?#

The connectors are a toolbox, and a toolbox does not come with a plan.

  • Nobody decides for you what to build. You choose the goal, the budget, the audience and the wording, or judge the assistant's suggestion yourself.
  • Limits are yours to set up. Since July 2026 a portfolio admin can set rules on what an agent may do. It is a settings job you have to know about and do.
  • Approval depends on the assistant and on your own clicks. Anthropic's help centre warns that choosing "Allow always" lets a tool run unsupervised, and that Claude's research mode can use connector tools without further approval.
  • Edits are not launches. Meta states that new things are created paused. We found no such statement about a budget change to a campaign that is already running, so treat an edit as live once you confirm it.
  • What counts as a lead is yours to define. The assistant reports what Meta records; which of those actions is a real enquiry is for you to work out and tell it.
  • It is in open beta. Tools and rules changed in July 2026 and may change again.

Anthropic's help centre also advises connecting only servers built and hosted by organisations you trust. Meta's own server passes that test; for anything else, see Is it safe to connect an AI tool to your ad account?.

Who should just use the connectors?#

If you already run your own ads, understand Ads Manager and want faster reporting and quicker edits, the official connectors are a good choice. They come from Meta, they use your own sign-in, and you may already have the assistant.

Where does an approval-based agent differ?#

The order of work and the stops are fixed in the product, instead of depending on what you typed and which button you pressed.

What Madder does#

Madder is one example of the approval-based kind. It connects through Meta's official sign-in and API, drafts a campaign from your page, builds ads from your own photos and creates everything paused in your own Meta ad account after one approval. It is in early access and does less than the connectors in breadth. The steps are at How Madder works, and the limits are in What the agent can and cannot do.

Questions people ask#

Can ChatGPT or Claude run my Facebook ads for me?

Yes, through Meta's official AI connectors, announced on 29 April 2026 and in open beta: they can create and edit campaigns and report on results. They act on your instructions, so the plan and the decisions stay with you.

Is it safe to connect ChatGPT or Claude to my Meta ad account?

The official connectors are built and hosted by Meta and use your own Meta sign-in. The checks for any other tool are in our safety guide.

Can the assistant spend my money without asking?

Meta's documentation says new campaigns, ad sets and ads are created paused and that the assistant asks before activating them. How firmly every later change is confirmed depends on the assistant's settings, for example whether you pressed "Allow always" in Claude.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?

OpenAI's documentation lists developer mode for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web. Anthropic says custom connectors in the Claude app are available on every plan, with the free plan limited to one; Meta's own setup guide covers Claude Code, and we have not found a Meta page confirming the Claude app route.
