What the agent can and cannot do

The agent reads your accounts and proposes changes; it never spends, approves, touches platform billing or invents creatives.

Checked 8 Sep 2026

Two minutes to read.

Before you start#

  • Nothing. This applies to every workspace from the first minute.

1. What it reads#

The agent can list your campaigns and read a summary of your metrics: spend, leads, cost per lead, by day and by campaign. It reads the ad account's name, currency and timezone. It reads only the ad accounts connected to your workspace.

2. What it proposes#

Every change the agent wants is a proposal. A launch always waits in Needs your call; a budget change inside your per-action ceiling is approved with one tap, without a second look at the ceiling; a pause is never refused for money reasons and never capped — it still waits for your tap. Today the kinds are:

  • Create campaign — drafted paused. It spends nothing until you approve it and then approve the resume from Campaigns — a second yes.
  • Pause campaign — never refused, never capped; one tap on the card and it is applied. Resume campaign — always waits for you.
  • Raise budget and Lower budget — a new daily budget for one campaign, with the amount of the change shown next to it.

Each proposal carries a short reason. A create-campaign proposal also carries the full write-up.

3. What it can never do#

  • Spend without approval. The agent has no tool that executes or approves. Its database seat cannot move a proposal past pending; a forged approval is refused by the database itself, not by a setting you could turn off.
  • Approve its own proposal. Only a human with Approve spend can. See Roles and members.
  • Touch platform billing. Madder never sees or changes your payment method, invoices or spending limits on Meta, Google or TikTok. See Billing.
  • Create creatives from nothing. Images come from you, uploaded in Creatives; Madder attaches them to the paused draft. It cannot make them, and video is not supported yet.
  • Exceed the day's ceiling. An upward budget change over your workspace's daily ceiling is refused at approval and again at execution. See Budgets and the most you pay per win.

4. What it answers#

Ask it about your ads, your connected accounts, your setup, or how Madder works. Those are the subjects it has data for. You ask in the agent card — the living disc in the bottom-right corner of every screen opens it, and ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) puts the cursor in the box that reads Ask Madder. @ mentions a product or campaign, / runs a skill. The reply lands in the same card, the conversation is kept as a chat, and a dot on the disc tells you an answer arrived while the card was minimised. See The agent widget. It does not have your passwords, your card, or your platform login — it works through a token you granted.

If it doesn't work#

  • A proposal shows "Not approved: authority exceeded" — the change is over today's ceiling. Approve a smaller change or wait for tomorrow's ceiling.
  • The agent says it needs an account id — an older behaviour; it already has every connected account. Reconnect the account if the list is empty.
  • It drafted a campaign you did not ask for — it is paused and unapproved. Leave it; nothing spends.
