A shop that sells furniture, lighting, bedding, candles or kitchenware is selling something people think about before they buy. They measure a wall, ask someone else, and come back a week later. That shows in the published numbers, and it decides which of your products can carry an ad at all.
What do the published numbers say?#
WordStream's 2026 report, built on US campaigns aimed at website visits, gives a typical cost of $0.64 a click for furniture and $0.63 for home and home improvement. The figure across all 22 industries it lists is $0.60. Its figures are medians, and a category can rest on as few as 11 campaigns.
Shopify's 2026 guide quotes a benchmark across more than 400 brands. In its table, home and furniture has an order rate of 1.29%. Only luxury and jewellery is lower. Fashion is at 2.77% and pet care at 5.7%.
| A rough sum | |
|---|---|
| Spend | $64 |
| Clicks at about $0.64 each | 100 |
| Orders at 1.29% | about 1.3 |
| Ad cost for each order | about $50 |
Treat this as an illustration, since it joins a US click price to a worldwide order rate. The order rate is an average over all of a shop's visitors, returning customers included. We found no published rate for first visits from an ad. Expect it to be lower, and the cost of a first order higher than this sum shows. The shape is what matters. One order for every 78 or so visitors is the published average in this trade.
Which products can carry an ad?#
Put the $50 next to what an order leaves you after the goods, the packing and the delivery.
| What you sell | Typical order | Can a first order pay for a $50 ad cost? |
|---|---|---|
| A candle, a mug, a tea towel | $15 to $30 | No. Only as part of a set, or if buyers come back |
| A lamp, a throw, a set of bedding | $60 to $150 | Sometimes, depending on your margin |
| A chair, a table, a sofa | $300 and up | Yes, if the page answers delivery and returns |
The order values in this table are examples for the arithmetic, not market data. The same reasoning works in pounds. Use your own figures in the cost per lead calculator, with an order in place of a lead.
For a shop of small things, the answer is a bundle. Three candles as a gift set, or a starter set for a new kitchen, turns a $20 order into a $60 one for the same click.
If you take enquiries instead of orders#
Some furniture businesses sell made-to-order pieces and want an enquiry first. WordStream's 2026 report has figures for campaigns that collect leads: a typical $39.25 a lead for furniture and $42.95 for home and home improvement, against $27.39 across all industries. A category in that table can rest on as few as four campaigns, so read these as rough. A lead here is an enquiry, and only some enquiries become orders. See Lead form or website.
Which photos work for home goods?#
This is our advice, not a measured result.
- The item in a room. A lamp on a side table beside a sofa shows the size, the light and the use at once.
- Something that shows the size. A hand, a book or a chair next to it, so nothing about the size is a surprise on arrival.
- Daylight, no filters. The colour on the screen should be the colour in the box.
- One close shot of the material. Grain, weave or glaze is what the buyer is paying for.
In Ads Manager, Meta's carousel format lets one ad show two or more images, each with its own link. It suits a range or a room set. A collection ad shows a cover image with products from your catalogue under it, and needs a catalogue. Both are things to add once a single-image ad has shown that people want the product.
What must the page answer?#
For a large item, the page does more of the selling than the ad. Before you spend, check that a stranger can find these without scrolling far.
- The price, and the delivery cost to their door.
- How long delivery takes, and whether it comes assembled.
- The measurements, in a picture as well as in numbers.
- What happens if it does not fit or arrives damaged.
If people click and leave, more budget buys more people who leave. The full check is in Facebook ads not working?.
How long before you can judge?#
Longer than for most shops, because people take their time. Meta says an ad set usually settles after about 50 results in the week after its last significant change, and a result is whatever the campaign is set to bring. Clicks reach 50 quickly. Orders for considered purchases arrive one or two at a time. Give a campaign at least four weeks at a steady budget before you judge it by orders. Ask buyers how they found you, because someone who saw the ad on Tuesday may type your name into a search on Sunday.
What Madder does for a home goods shop today#
Madder is an AI agent that runs Facebook and Instagram ads for a small business with no marketer and no agency. A homeware shop that delivers nationwide is the kind of business it fits.
You give it the link to a product page. It reads what is sold and the price, drafts a campaign with a daily budget, and builds the ads from photos you upload and approve, one photo to an ad. Once you approve, it creates the campaign paused in your own Meta ad account, and a second approval switches it on. After that it can check the campaign every day and suggest a pause or a budget change, or make the small changes itself if you switch Autopilot on. The full sequence is at How Madder works.
Its limits matter for this trade.
- A whole country only. It cannot aim at a city or a radius. If you deliver furniture only within 30 miles, most of the people who see the ad could not buy. Use Ads Manager's location targeting for that.
- No carousel, collection or catalogue ads. Each ad shows one photo and sends people to your page.
- Visits, not purchases. The campaign is set to bring visits to your page. It is not yet optimised for orders or for enquiries, and Madder does not create lead forms.
- No AI-made room scenes. Making images with AI is built and not switched on.
Madder is free during early access, by invitation. The steps are at How Madder works, and the general advice for a first campaign is in Ads for a small online shop.
Questions people ask#
Do Facebook ads work for furniture and homeware?
They can for larger orders. With a published average of about 1.3 orders in 100 visits and clicks at about $0.64, a first order costs at least $50 in ads, and probably more for first-time visitors from an ad. A $400 table can carry that. A $20 candle cannot, unless it is sold in a set or the buyer returns.
What is a normal conversion rate for a home goods shop?
A 2026 benchmark quoted by Shopify gives 1.29% for home and furniture, the second lowest of the seven categories in its table.
What does a lead cost for a furniture business on Facebook?
WordStream's 2026 US benchmark gives a typical $39.25 a lead for furniture and $42.95 for home and home improvement, against $27.39 across all industries. A category there can rest on as few as four campaigns.
Can Madder aim my ads at my delivery area?
Not today. Madder aims a campaign at the whole country of your ad account. City and radius targeting are not available yet.
