About one minute.
Before you start#
- A Meta account that has access to the ad account (admin or advertiser on it).
- Your role in Madder must include Connect & disconnect sources: owner or admin.
1. Start the connect#
On the home screen press Add account, choose Meta, then Connect in one click. Madder sends you to Meta's consent dialog and back; the token never appears in your browser.
2. What Meta asks you to grant#
Madder requests six permissions:
- ads_read — read campaigns, ad sets, ads and their metrics.
- ads_management — make the changes you approve: create paused campaigns, pause, resume, change budgets, create the pixel.
- business_management — see the business portfolios your account belongs to, so accounts under them can be listed.
- pages_show_list, pages_read_engagement, pages_manage_ads — list the Pages you manage, read their names, and run ads from the one you choose.
Nothing is spent by granting. Spending still requires your approval inside Madder.
3. Choose only the ad accounts you want#
Meta's dialog lets you pick which ad accounts the app may see. Madder imports every ad account you grant as a connected source. That includes:
- your personal ad account;
- ad accounts owned by a business portfolio you belong to;
- a business's client ad accounts, if you grant those too.
If you run ads for others, untick their accounts unless Madder should manage them. You can disconnect an account later, but it is simpler to grant the right set now.
4. Back in Madder#
The home page shows Meta connected — N ad accounts linked. Each one appears under Settings → Sources with its currency and timezone. Metrics start syncing on the next tick.
What Madder stores#
- A long-lived access token, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. It is never logged, never sent to your browser, and readable only by the part of Madder that applies approved changes.
- Your Meta user id and the permissions granted.
- Each granted ad account's id, name, currency and timezone.
See What Madder does with your data.
How to disconnect#
Settings → Sources → the account's menu → Disconnect. Madder stops reading and acting on it at once; data already pulled is kept. To cut Madder off from the Meta side as well, remove it in Meta's settings — see Delete your data or disconnect.
If it doesn't work#
- "Meta connect failed" — the consent was cancelled or timed out; consent must finish within 10 minutes. Try again.
- Fewer accounts than expected — an account without a currency or timezone on Meta is skipped. Fix it in Meta Business settings and reconnect.
- "no seat" — your invitation to this workspace was revoked mid-connect. Ask the owner.
