Install the TikTok Pixel

Create a TikTok Pixel in Events Manager, put its base code on every page, add a Lead or CompleteRegistration event, and prove it fires with Pixel Helper and Test events.

Madder does not create the TikTok Pixel yet; once your TikTok account is connected the agent reads the pixel and its events and picks the lead event as the campaign's optimisation goal. Without a pixel TikTok can only report clicks, and the agent has no cost per lead to steer by.

Before you start#

  • A TikTok ad account registered in Madder (Create a TikTok ad account).
  • Access to your site's code, theme, CMS or Google Tag Manager.
  • The thank-you page URL or the button that means "lead".

1. Create the pixel#

In TikTok Ads Manager go to Tools → Events Manager (as of September 2026) and click Connect data source. Select Web and Next, enter your site URL, then pick Partner Integration (Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Google Tag Manager and similar) or Manual Setup to paste code yourself. Name the pixel after the domain (max 128 characters).

2. Install the base code#

  • Partner Integration — choose the partner and follow its steps; on Shopify, install the TikTok app and it places the pixel with "no changes to website code required".
  • Google Tag Manager — add TikTok's template tag with the Pixel ID, fire it on All Pages, publish.
  • Manual — copy the base code and paste it into the <head> of every page (WordPress, Webflow, Framer, Wix and Next.js all have a head-code field or component).

3. Add the lead event#

In the pixel's settings use Event Builder to attach a standard event to a URL or a click without code, or Custom Code to get a snippet for your developer. Pick from TikTok's standard events: Submit Form or Contact for enquiry forms, Complete Registration for sign-ups, Schedule for bookings, Complete Payment or Purchase for sales, Subscribe for subscriptions. One event per real outcome.

4. Check with Pixel Helper#

Install TikTok Pixel Helper from the Chrome Web Store, open your site, and click the icon. It reports "detailed diagnostics at all levels including pixel, event, and parameter implementation": a missing pixel, an invalid Pixel ID, an empty event name, a malformed value. Green pixel plus your event on the thank-you page is the target.

5. Confirm in Test events#

In Events Manager, under Website Pixel click Manage, pick the pixel and open the Test Events tab. Enter your site URL to get a QR code, scan it with the TikTok app's Discover tab, complete a test lead on your phone and "watch your Event Activity appear in real time". Expand the event to see its parameters. Then tell Madder's agent the pixel is live.

If it doesn't work#

  • Pixel Helper shows nothing — the base code is missing on this page or blocked by a consent banner; check that the tag fires after consent.
  • Pixel fires, event never does — the Event Builder rule points at a URL that differs from the real thank-you page (www, trailing slash, query string).
  • Two pixels on one page — an app plus a manual paste; keep one.
  • Test events stays empty — the QR flow needs the TikTok app on the phone that performs the action.
  • Events arrive but Madder shows no leads — the event is not the one chosen as the campaign goal; ask the agent to switch the optimisation event.
