Paste the pixel snippet Madder wrote into the <head> of every page, then check that a PageView reaches Meta. Ten minutes if you can edit your site's header; longer if a developer does it for you.
Before you start#
- The wizard shows your pixel ID and the code block (see What the pixel and dataset are).
- Access to your site's header template, or to its Google Tag Manager container.
- Google Chrome, for the checking step.
1. Copy the code from Madder#
In the campaign checklist open Set up tracking and click Copy code. The block starts with <!-- Meta Pixel Code --> and already contains your ID twice — do not edit it. It fires PageView on every page it loads on; that is the signal Meta needs first.
2. Put it in the head — direct or via Tag Manager#
Directly. Paste the block between the <head> and </head> tags of every page. Meta's own guidance is to place it in the persistent header high up, so it loads before the visitor leaves. Site-specific steps: Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Framer, Wix, Next.js.
Via Google Tag Manager. In your container click Add a new tag → Custom HTML, paste the block, set Tag firing options to Once per page, trigger on All Pages, save and Submit the container. Full walkthrough: Google Tag Manager. Never install both ways — two copies double-count.
If your platform has a native Meta integration (Shopify, Wix), that integration installs the same pixel by ID; you then paste the ID rather than the code.
3. Confirm PageView arrives#
Two checks, do both:
- Meta Ads Data Advisor (as of September 2026 Meta's new name for the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension). Install it from the Chrome Web Store, open your site, click the extension icon. A badge with a number means the pixel fired; the panel lists
PageViewand any errors. - Test events in Events Manager. Open your dataset → Test events tab, enter your site URL, click Open website, browse a page or two. Events should appear within about a minute. If they do, click I've installed it in Madder.
4. Tell Madder#
Click I've installed it. Madder marks the checklist item done and starts using the pixel as soon as events flow; nothing changes in your campaign until then. Next: Fire a Lead event.
If it doesn't work#
- Nothing in Test events after a minute — disable ad blockers and privacy extensions, refresh, interact with the page again; some browsers are unsupported by the tool, so try Chrome.
- Data Advisor shows the pixel but a red error — usually the ID is wrong or the code was pasted inside another script; re-copy from Madder.
- PageView fires twice — the code exists both in the theme and in Tag Manager (or a platform integration); keep one.
- Fires on the home page only — the snippet was pasted into one page's content, not the site-wide header template.
- Events land on the wrong dataset — the site carries an older pixel ID; either replace it or paste that older ID into Madder's wizard so both agree.
