Handle a rejected ad on Meta

Meta reviews every ad against its Advertising Standards; a rejected ad does not run and Madder will not resume it — but Madder does not yet show the rejection: Meta tells you, and you fix the ad or ask for a second look there.

Ten minutes per ad.

Before you start#

  • The rejection email from Meta, or the ad in Ads Manager (Madder does not yet show the rejection).
  • Advertiser role on the ad account.

1. Why ads get rejected#

Meta's review checks the image or video, the text, the targeting, and the landing page. Its Advertising Standards group the reasons as: Unacceptable content, Fraud, scams and deceptive practices, Restricted goods and services (alcohol, health, financial services, gambling, dating — allowed with conditions), Objectionable content, Intellectual property, Social issue, electoral or political, and Product and format-specific rules (lead-form rules live here).

For lead campaigns the usual culprits are a landing page that differs from the ad, "guaranteed" results, personal attributes ("are you over 50?"), and a missing privacy-policy link on the form.

2. Special ad categories#

If the offer concerns credit, employment, housing, or financial products and services — or social issues, elections or politics — Meta requires the campaign to declare a Special ad category. Declared campaigns lose age, gender, postcode-level location, lookalike and most detailed targeting. Madder does not ask about the category yet; if your business is a lender, recruiter, landlord, broker or insurer, tell the agent before it drafts. This applies as of September 2026 to advertisers in the US, or reaching people in the US, Canada or Europe.

3. What Madder tells you#

Meta reviews every new or edited ad; nothing spends while it is pending. A rejected ad (Meta's Disapproved or With issues) does not run, and Madder refuses to resume a campaign in that state — but Madder does not yet show the rejection or Meta's reason: Meta tells you, in Ads Manager and by email. Madder never edits ad copy or re-submits on its own — both are your decision.

4. Edit and resubmit#

  1. Open the rejected ad in Ads Manager (the email's link lands there) and read the policy named under Ad status.
  2. Fix the cause: change the text or creative, or the landing page. Editing the ad sends it back into review automatically.
  3. Madder cannot swap the image on a live ad yet, so the replacement is made in Ads Manager too.

5. Ask for a second look#

If you believe the ad complies, as of September 2026: Business Support Home → Account status overview → the ad → Request review, and add a short note. Meta emails the decision. Ads Manager also shows Request review on the ad itself.

6. Account-level restrictions#

Several rejections in a row, or one serious breach, can restrict the ad account or the Page. Business Support Home lists the restriction and, where allowed, a review button; Madder does not yet notice a restriction — Meta tells you — and nothing Madder created runs without your Resume (Billing and payment holds).

If it doesn't work#

  • Rejected again with the same reason — the landing page, not the ad, breaks the rule; check claims, pricing and the privacy link there.
  • Reason says "circumventing systems" — cloaked or redirecting landing URLs; point the ad at the final page.
  • No Request review button — the decision is final for that ad; create a new one with the fix.
  • Every new ad is rejected — the account or Page is restricted; resolve that in Business Support Home before launching more.
