The wizard takes about five minutes.
Before you start#
- A Meta ad account connected to Madder (Home → Connect → Meta).
- A campaign draft open in Campaigns — the pixel wizard lives on its checklist under Add the Meta Pixel.
- If your campaign uses a lead form, you can skip the pixel entirely: see Lead forms.
1. Know what you are looking at#
- Pixel — the JavaScript snippet on your website. It sends events such as
PageViewandLeadto Meta so Meta can optimise toward people who actually become leads, and so Madder can report cost per lead from your site rather than from clicks. - Dataset — the container in Meta's Events Manager that receives those events. As of September 2026 Meta creates the pixel inside a Web dataset, and the number Meta shows as the dataset ID is the same 15–16 digit pixel ID you paste into code. Treat "pixel ID" and "dataset ID" as one thing.
- One per ad account — Meta lets each ad account own one pixel through the ad-account route Madder uses. A second click on the wizard finds the same pixel; it never creates a duplicate.
2. Let Madder create it#
- In the campaign checklist click Set up tracking, then Create my Pixel.
- Madder asks Meta for the pixel of the connected ad account: it lists first, and creates only if none exists. The pixel is named after your site's domain (or "Madder" if the draft has no URL).
- The wizard shows Created Pixel … or Found Pixel … with the ID, then writes the code for you. Continue with Install the pixel code.
Nothing is spent and nothing about the pixel is stored in Madder — the ID lives on Meta, and Madder reads it again whenever it needs it.
3. Find it in Events Manager (optional)#
You do not need Events Manager for the wizard, but it is where you check events later. As of September 2026:
- Open Events Manager at business.facebook.com/events_manager2 and pick the right ad account in the top-left selector.
- Under Data sources you see the dataset; the ID sits under its name.
- Each dataset has tabs Overview, Test events, Diagnostics, History and Settings.
A freshly created dataset shows no activity — Meta labels it along the lines of No integrations or "no activity yet" — until the code is on your site and a page has loaded.
Already have a pixel?#
Open Already have a Pixel? Paste its ID instead in the wizard and paste the 15–16 digit ID from Events Manager. Use this when your site already runs a pixel from another agency or tool — two pixels on one page split your data.
If it doesn't work#
- "The ad account isn't connected any more" — the Meta connection expired or was revoked; reconnect on Home and click Try again.
- "Meta refused: …" — usually a permission problem on the ad account (you need an admin or advertiser role) or a business that blocks pixel creation; paste an existing ID, or create one manually in Events Manager via Connect data → Web.
- Dataset shows no events an hour after install — the code is not on every page or is blocked; work through Install the pixel code.
